Search a route on

A1. Be familiar with the basics of route search

Route search is based on timetables of all the transport lines in Ile-de-France (SNCF Transilien, RATP, buses and coaches networks OPTILE), whatever the modes (train, RER, Metro, Tram, Tzen, bus and coach). does not take into account real time timetables of each train, subway or bus. However, the site displays the current disruptions on the networks. 

The minimum information required are, a place of departure, a place of arrival, a date and a time of planned travel. Advanced criteria are still available (choice of modes, enter a via, type of walker).The user is assisted for entering data, either by map or by list of proposals. can show you several solutions, results are displayed as route details, combined with mapping.

You can print a route details or share it by email or on your Twitter or Facebook account.

A2. Enter your request using the simple form

To search route, you must enter a place of departure and a place of arrival.

Enter the date of travel and specify the time of departure or of arrival (by default the current date and time are taken into account).

 Start research by clicking on the "Search" button.

 To help entering data: use a favorite pre-recorded (the star), view the district map of the place (the target) or reverse departure and arrival (back arrows).

 To use the advanced form, click on "more criteria".

When entering the form, assistance is provided as a list of proposals adjusts to the input text. Proposals are ranked by relevance and type (zone stops, addresses, remarkable places, cities).

A3. Knowing how to use the criteria 'via' in the advanced search

This option allows you to find a route that goes through a specific station or stop.  

Caution, it is not possible to enter the "Via" with a city, a remarkable place, an address, or even a line.

From the page "Routes & District Maps" fill in the departure / arrival, date, time and click on "+ more criteria" to access the option "VIA" : 


Fill in with the name of the stop in the "Via".

Start research by clicking on the "Search" button to search with the "Via" entered.

To clear the input, click on the cross.

A4. Change settings in the advanced search

From the page "Routes & District Maps", click on "+ more criteria"  to access "Preferences".

This option lets you choose the mode of transport and/or type of walking.


Choose your mode of transport to be used for the route search, click in the check box to uncheck the undesired mode

Choose the type of walking that defines the speed and running time. For example, good walker will move up to faster and further than a normal walker

Click on the "Search" button to start research

A5. Understand the route results

A route search, at a given time, may propose a maximum of 4 solutions simultaneously : 

  • One that allows the earliest arrival. 
  • One that offers the least walking. 
  • One that is faster at a time close.
  • One that offers the fewest changes.


You must choose the solution that suits you best in the list of proposed solutions. When you move your mouse over the results list on the left, the map on the right shows the proposal. You get the route details by clicking on a solution.

These parameters will be considered in your route search.

  • The left column: the results display area. 
  • The right column: display the route on the map.

Your search criteria that can be modified such as the date or if you require advanced criteria.

The options "arrive earlier" or "from later" for previous or next arrival/departure. 

The list of proposed solutions lets you choose the solution that suits you best. Click on a solution to display the route details. 

When you move your mouse over the results list on the left, the map on the right shows the proposal.

A7. Know how to modify his original query

How change the original query ?

Click on the "+" (see arrow) to find the button "Modify" from the route details of the route search result. 

A8. Access to additionnal informations from the route details

 It is possible to access as follows :

  • Display a timetable or a line map. 
  • Display applicable functions for each step of the route, for example, on pedestrian step, the only proposed module is "Favorite ". Click the "+" sign to display the possible functions to be performed in your search : 

More info : 

It provides : access to timetables or maps, access to the traffic news in case of major disruptions, and check the status of a line in order to anticipate and adapt its route in case of disruptions.

Avoid : 

t allows to avoid a line or a station; In the route details, click the button to avoid a station or a line, another solution is proposed.

Favorites : 

It offers the possibility to save his routes and favorite places to future use, it avoids the recapture. 

  • Click on the "target" to view the district map of a pedestrian or walking step.
A6. Know how to read the route details of a journey

Result page of a route search :

Click on "Back to results" to see the list of proposed routes.

It is possible to print or email the route details.

The mode(s) used by the route + the walking step, the number of fare zones valid on this route and the overall duration estimated.

The departure station is served by the train (line L Transilien - Mission POPI) towards the Gare Saint-Lazare. You can access the timetable by clicking on the letter "L" Transilien (see arrow).

The walking time for correspondence and the waiting time at the stop, here in Saint-Lazare station on the subway line 12.

Departure from Saint-Lazare station to Notre-Dame de Lorette station, subway line 12 towards Porte de la chapelle. You can access the timetables by clicking on the line number (see arrow).

It is possible, to record the address as a favorite, and to display the district map.


How to use favorites ?

To use favorites on the website, create your personal space (see help E1), or otherwise allow cookies. 

This option allows you to save a place, an address, a stop or even a line in order to re-use it in future research (routes, timetables and maps, transport nearby)


Caution, before you can use your favorites, they should be set by clicking on the star in the result pages (stop or line).

For example, in the result page of the journey planner :

when you create a favorite, a popup appears to confirm. Click on the cross to close it.


If the place you want to record is an address, you will need to enter a label.


To use the saved favorites, you must click on the star in search forms.

Then, just select the favorite in the proposed list :

Where do the traffic infos, broadcasted by Vianavigo, come from ?

Vianavigo broadcasts the traffic infos provided daily by the operators OPTILE, RATP and SNCF on the transport lines in Ile-de-France.

These informations are about unexpected disruptions and about the planned works on networks.

Do the results from the route search take disruptions into account ?

Disruptions are not taken into account by the route search. Only the planned disturbances (SNCF works planned for example) can be taken into account for timetables. 

However, all the traffic infos, active at search date and time, are displayed in the results

When disruptions are displayed on a route, you can find alternatives by using the AVOID function.
